Embracing the Change: A Perimenopausal Woman's Journey in Running a Beauty Salon
As a woman in her late 40s, I find myself navigating the challenging waters of perimenopause while managing my beauty salon. This unique intersection of personal and professional life has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, self-care, and the beauty of embracing change.
Understanding Perimenopause
Perimenopause is the transitional phase before menopause, typically occurring in a woman's 40s. It can bring about a variety of physical and emotional changes, including mood swings, hot flashes, and changes in skin texture. While these shifts can be daunting, they also provide an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. I have spent the last few years trying to navigate my own symptoms. There was a time when I was feeling so low and mentally exhausted, I almost closed my business. I finally took the time seek out professional help and I am now on a good level with my HRT where I feel more like my old self again, and have the passion I once lost in all things.
Running a Beauty Salon: A Personal Oasis
Owning a beauty salon has always been my passion. It’s a space where I can express creativity, connect with others, and build a community of support. As I navigate my perimenopausal journey, I find that my salon has become more than just a business; it’s a sanctuary for both my clients and myself. I often speak to my clients about my own personal journey with perimenopause when they come to me with there own symptoms and struggles. I do my upmost to let them know there is help and they do not have to feel like this a second longer than is necessary., life is far too short. By sharing my own personal experience, they know it’s not them, there are others out there feeling the same way because let’s face it we all start to feel like it’s us, there is something wrong with us. Navigating emotions, mood swings, anxiety that I have never had prior to peri menopause and running a business has been extremely challenging and whilst there is now more emphasis on this stage of life for a women, we cant just take a day off and let everyone down. I have learnt to prioritize my own mental wellbeing and creating a work-life balance that is manageable for me without letting anyone down. Setting boundaries and realistic goals.
Creating a Welcoming Environment
I believe that beauty is about feeling good inside and out. To create a nurturing atmosphere, I focus on providing services that cater to not only the young women but those of the unique needs of women in their 40s and beyond. From skincare treatments that combat dryness to relaxing massages, my goal is to help my clients embrace their changing bodies and find confidence in their beauty.
Encouraging Open Conversations
One of the most rewarding aspects of my salon is the opportunity to foster open conversations about perimenopause. Many of my clients are experiencing similar changes, and providing a space for them to share their experiences is empowering. Whether it’s discussing skincare routines or coping mechanisms, these conversations help break the stigma around aging and create a supportive community.
Self-Care in the Midst of Change
As a business owner, it’s easy to put my own needs on the back burner. However, I’ve learned that self-care is essential, especially during this transitional phase
Inspiring Others
As I continue my journey as a perimenopausal woman running a beauty salon, I hope to inspire others to embrace this phase of life with grace and confidence. Each day brings new challenges, but it also offers opportunities for growth and connection. I am always here for ay of my clients that need advice, or just a chat.
Conclusion
Being a perimenopausal woman in the beauty industry has taught me that beauty is not just about appearances; it’s about feeling confident and empowered in our own skin. Through my salon, I strive to create a space where women can come together, share their stories, and celebrate the beauty of change. Together, we can redefine the narrative around aging and inspire one another to embrace every stage of life with joy.
